A new dawn

Come morning, I will be on my way home. First Austin, then Atlanta, and finally Zurich. What a blessing it will be to celebrate my baby brother and all he has accomplished in the last 12 years of school! My heart swells with pride when I think of the man he has become. Vancouver, B.C.

What joy there was to be found in Vancouver! Mornings spent sipping on lattes with a dear friend . . . afternoons spent sightseeing in the warm sunshine . . .  and evenings spent planning the wedding of Karmen's dreams . . . the days were strung together into a procession of moments I shall cherish always. 

Marked with a heart

This day has been marked on my calendar for months now. I am so eager to be reunited with my twin, Karmen. Today, I fly from Austin to Seattle, where Karmen and her fiance, Spencer, will be awaiting me. Then, it is a short car trip to Vancouver where Karmen and I will spend a refreshing week together planning for her wedding in June. Eeek! Me and the beautiful bride in Vancouver! Pictures to follow. Observing summer

Time spent with with these two  is conducive to my health and well-being. In observance of our last day spent together, just the three of us, we planned a day of all of our favorite things. Our afternoon included a trip to Whole Foods, Anthropologie and Book People. We could not have been more pleased with our plan. As we sat in the sun sipping on our individual beverages, we soaked up our last moments together. A chai latte for Grammy, an iced caramel latte for Cameron, and I, feeling inspired by a recent article I read, ordered a kale, apple juice, and coconut water smoothie. With each sip I reminded myself of all the nutrients I was giving my body. It almost made it bearable . . .

Lost in my thoughts this morning . . . does that ever happen to you?

Breakfast dates

Sharing stories over pancakes and mugs of steaming black coffee has to be my most favorite way to spend the early morning. I am so blessed to have these two breakfast-loving friends in my life. I have forever been touched my their insight and warmheartedness. I love you L. and A. 

Rice pudding

Ingredients:

2 eggs

1 pkg. vanilla pudding mix (cook type)

1/2 cup sugar

1 can condensed milk

2 cups water

2 cups cooked brown rice

Directions:

Combine eggs, pudding mix, sugar and condensed milk. Add 2 cups water, then add cooked brown rice. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly to keep from burning. Cool at room temperature, garnish with cinnamon, nutmeg, or blackberries.

My dear friend, S., absolutely loves rice pudding! For this reason, I am passing this easy recipe on to her. With finals week upon us, a little comfort food is much-needed just about . . . now.
